Pros and Cons of Abortion

Abstract

The world has changed drastically over the past few years; the culture across the globe has drastically changed. There are far too many abortions taking place these days when compared to the previous years. Abortion is mainly opted by women who choose to avoid becoming pregnant, and most of such women are unmarried women. Undergoing abortion is a challenging step to take for any woman, and it takes a lot of guts to make the decision. This paper will throw light on why women choose to abort.

Abortion, according to many, is a huge sin, killing the unborn is an unmerciful act. The irresponsible people in the society, without thinking about the circumstances, put themselves in an extremely undesirable situation. Everyone must act responsibly to avoid an adverse situation, and abortion is, without a doubt, an unfavourable situation for any human being to be in. The biggest con of abortion is that it an unmerciful act; the unborn infant does not deserve to die; there is no mistake of the infant for which the infant should be punished. “Half the percentage of women obtaining abortions is below 25.” (Pros and Cons of Abortion, 6 December 2008). This is the age when people are sexually active. It is profoundly immoral to involve yourself in a relationship without accepting the responsibility which the relation brings with it, and opting for abortion is refusing to accept the responsibility. No society appreciates women opting for abortion because it is an immoral act, and the same is its biggest con.

Pros and Cons of Abortion

“Some women use abortion as a type of birth control. They sleep with men and do not use protection and think nothing of it to go to the clinic as many as five times in their life to have an abortion. A con against abortion is the nagging thought that a woman went to a clinic, had an abortion. Thus the world was prevented from seeing the birth of the only person capable of attaining a leadership role and initiating a peace accord between warring factions in the Middle East, thus preventing decades of strife and murder. Stable home life is not a guarantee of talent, and illegitimate children have shown themselves to be very bright on occasion, Lawrence of Arabia for one.” (Pros and Cons of Abortion, 10 May 2009)

Abortion is a considerable risk to the health of the woman who opts to undergo an abortion. Miscarriages are among the most significant risks involved when a woman opts for abortion; the most significant threat is to the life of the woman who chooses for an abortion. There is a high possibility of a woman losing her life when she decides to undergo an abortion. Considering the same, it is highly insensible to put an individual in a situation where abortion is the only solution. “Every year, nearly 42 million women decide to have an abortion, and about 20 million are forced to resort to unsafe abortion, 98% of which are in developing countries. Unsafe abortion was the cause of 66,500 deaths in 2003, representing 13% of all maternal deaths worldwide. Unsafe abortion is highest in South America and Eastern Africa, whereas mortality rates due to unsafe abortion are much higher in Africa than anywhere else.” (Unsafe Abortion, 10 May 2009).

Should abortion be legal? This is a very contentious question and one which can be debated for years. Each coin is two-sided, so it’s no different. It has two sides to it. Abortion should be legal because women who are raped and end up conceiving should have the right to abort their child, however, on the other hand, if they are legal, people will use it as a contraceptive, and it will have ramifications.

Abortion can never be a contraceptive; this is arguably the most significant reason it should not be legalized. Ending someone’s life is not on our control, and we better not start playing the role of God because it will have many undesirable consequences. We do not have the right to kill a fetus in the womb; no one can do it. It is a sin and will always remain so. The unborn child hardly has options; it was not the child who was asking to be born; when they did not have a choice, why should the parents choose to abort them?

From a religious perspective, abortion is an enormous sin because an embryo is entirely helpless, and killing someone dependent is a huge sin and should never be done. There are several health risks for women that are involved when it comes to aborting a child. Making it legal would inspire more and more people to go through it, which could end up taking a few lives that no one would want.

Doctors are very well respected because they must save as many lives as plausible, but people will stop admiring them when they start killing helpless embryos in the womb. They will continue to be respected if they were to continue saving lives, which is also their obligation. A woman who chooses to abort her unborn baby goes through a lot of mental trauma; many more women would go through the same should abortion be made legal.

The climate has changed drastically in the last few years; the society across the globe has changed dramatically. There are far too many abortions taking place these days when compared to the previous years. Abortion is mainly chosen by women who wish to avoid becoming pregnant, and most of such women are unmarried women. Undergoing abortion is a challenging step to take for any woman, and it takes a lot of guts to make the decision.

An Insight

Abortion can have a positive as well as a negative impact on the health of a woman. Women suffering from serious health problems like heart disease, kidney disease, etc., have a positive effect on abortion on their health. The body has to be well prepared for childbirth, conditions weaken the body, and opting for abortion many times helps women avoid further health complications. In societies where women are considered childbearing machines, opting for abortion gives them their own identity and the right to choose their unborn baby’s fate.

Many women use abortion as a contraceptive; this is both good as well as bad. Good because it keeps a check on the size of the family and limits the expansion of the family, bad because it hurts the health of a woman. “The convenience of abortion provides the parents with the option of having a wanted child. In its absence, any unwanted pregnancy would lead to the birth of many children, who weren’t wanted. This could immensely hamper the social strata of the society, having negative implications, especially on the child’s psyche. Moreover, in cases where women are raped, getting pregnant with such a child is another brutality, they would be forced to bear. So for them, the abortion option is the best “(Pros and Cons on Abortion, May 10, 2009).

Setting yourself in a position where abortion is the only way out is stupid. To ensure this does not happen, it becomes imperative to spread awareness and make the people aware of how sinful the acting process of abortion is. It is high time for the people in society to change for the better.

Conclusion

This paper sheds light upon whether abortion should be made legal or not, and it is fair to conclude that it should not be made legal because more and there would be more women going through an abortion if it were made legal. It would also end the lives of several women; one should be conscious and intelligent enough not to put themselves in such an awkward position. If our society’s people behave responsibly, then no woman would have to abort.

A religious point of view is critical to consider here, aborting a child is, without a doubt, an unmerciful act and something which never should be done. Babies never ask their parents to be born, as discussed earlier; it’s the parents who make a joint decision. Attacking someone helpless is also a sin and something that should never be done; the helpless embryo is attacked and wiped out during the abortion process, and no justification in this world can justify this.

It would become tough if women started aborting children in huge numbers, it would become a means of contraceptive which no one would want to happen. In addition, it is safe to say abortion will never be legalized.
