Difference Between Arranged Marriages And Love Based Marriages
In arranged marriages, it is the responsibility of the parents, family members, and the guardians to plan for the marriage. The bride and the groom have a little say concerning the marriage arrangements. This is according to my assumption before reading the article.
Arranged marriages and love-based marriages have various similarities and differences. Love, commitment, and satisfaction are the major outcomes of both arranged and loved-based marriages. In both marriages, the partners demonstrate love and commitment to ensure that the marriage lasts. Besides, the partners are committed to each other after the marriage. However, differences also exist in the two types of marriages. Love-based marriages are based on romantic attraction which is arranged between the bride and the groom. The bride and the groom play the major decisive role towards the marriage. On the other hand, the decisions concerning arranged marriages are based on the decisions of other parties other the bride and the groom. Such people include the family members, parents or the guardians. In love-based marriages, an individual is free to make an informed decision concerning the future spouse as opposed to arranged marriages. The selection criteria in love-based marriages are based on the interpersonal qualities and personal attributes of the potential partner while arranged based marriages selection criteria are based on the concerns of the members of the family.
There is love in arranged marriages. It develops in the course of the marriage. However, most communities who practice arranged marriages do not consider love as an adequate criterion in establishing the marriage. In love-based marriages, love is the primary criterion in establishing a marriage while in arranged marriages love does not play a sufficient role in building the marriage.
Yes, I would marry or date someone not approved by my parents provided he or she have the desired personal attributes and qualities of a prospective spouse. Parental approval encourages mutual relation between the couples with the rest of the family members. Besides, it promotes respect among the members of the family.
