Health Care Models Case Analysis

Question 1

Health models are used to support disease prevention and to allow health officers to practice health promotion. The health model allows health professionals to design and develop a health plan that is used to understand and explain health behavior (Sallis, Owen, & Fisher, 2015). The sociological determinant of health model is public policy. Public policy entails national, state and local laws and regulations.  Public policy involves the community, organizational and interpersonal relationships. Furthermore, it describes individual relationships. Individual relationships comprise the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of the people towards health promotion and disease prevention. Public policy can influence a person’s health in several ways. The interpersonal factors affect the behavior and personality of an individual. Public policy as socio-ecological model or determinant of health model defines the laws and practices that promote health. Besides, it outlines the actions and practices health professionals in disease prevention, management, and control. In this case, existing policies, laws and regulations of a particular nation or state that are used to support can either enhance or limit healthy behaviors among individuals. The policies and regulations that support health practices can be used to create barriers that limit interpersonal growth (Sallis, Owen, & Fisher, 2015). In this case, healthy behaviors of people will be limited. The socio-ecological factor also focuses on how individuals can learn from their own experiences and actions of other people. It defines how laws and regulations can be applied in various populations and settings. Implementation and reinforcement of laws can influence healthy behaviors among individuals. Therefore, socio-ecological determinants of health model impact a person’s health depend on how the policies or regulations that support health services are implemented.

Question 2

Health professionals play a significant role in promoting healthy behaviors among individuals. Health professionals such as doctors help explain help explain health complications to patients. Nurses provide critical healthcare support to people at their homes or hospitals. Nurses also provide patients with advice and medication they are required to take (Powers, 2003). They share their feelings and emotions with the sick. In this case, they help them to recover quickly from different ailments. Therefore, health professionals help in promoting healthy behavior and appropriate medical support.

Health professionals such as occupational therapists play a critical role in the management and prevention of chronic diseases. In this case, they help people to cut their expenses on hospitalization. Occupational therapists advise individuals or groups on best exercises that they must undertake to promote their health (Powers, 2003). Besides, nutritionists provide advice to people on specific diets to promote healthy living and wellness.

Healthcare professionals play a vital role in helping the people to overcome different ailments. In the first instance, they acknowledge the illness that people are suffering from. Based on their knowledge concerning the disease the health professionals provide the necessary support by diagnosing the disease (Powers, 2003). After the diagnosis, they prescribe appropriate medication that would enable the patient to overcome the disease. Besides, the health professionals advise patients suffering from different ailments on the appropriate lifestyle that would allow them to recover quickly. Therefore, health professionals play a critical role in promoting a healthy lifestyle among individuals, people, and populations.
