Ways of Preventing Crime

Intensive Supervision on Parole and Probation:

The placement of prisoners in the unit is very effective crime prevention program, communitiesCrime Prevention Programs closely monitor the offender and impose religious conditions, and the level of supervision ensures public security, but it cannot focus on each offender (Travis, 1998). The primary goal of supervision for certain offenders is the division of parole and probation, when they know they are under the supervision of courts or board, they try to improve their selves so they could be release. In my assessment, this is the best way for the improvement in the crime rates. Through drug testing, educational programs and treatment thing can be improved. The extend guardianship and assist compliance technique could be used in it.

Home Detection with Electronic Monitoring:

In present time, it is very effective program for the reduction in crime rates, the criminal evaluation and monitoring take place in this program. It is the home detection program; home confinement to restrict juvenile offenders and other criminals, by the use of electronic conditions, which is set by the court. The technique alert consciousness and reduce emotional arousal could be used in it. This is the criminal justice system, which is giving effective results in the crime rate, in my assessment, there are two advantages of this program, first, it allow the offenders to work and juveniles are send to schools, and second, it reduces financial cost associated with the imprisonment. Thus, home detection with electronic monitoring can minimize the crime rate.

Storefront Police Offices:

It has become fashionable for police agencies to initiate community police. The primary goal of the police or supervisors is to work for the individual citizens or group of citizen, or for any organization or for the city as a whole. The technique set riles could be applied to storefront police officers. However, storefront police officers fail to prevent crime in the surrounding areas, in my assessment, community based police cannot deal with the problems alone, they need the team or partner to effectively deal with the problem. In this case, early recognition of problem or crime is needed, so that results could be achieved. Officers should also be encouraged to maintain personal relationships with citizens so that they easily report the crimes or easily identify the criminal with the support of police.

Neighborhood Watch:

It is an organized group of citizens, who report crime by keeping eyes on each other’s. Civilians agree together and report suspicious incidents. It may include residents of the community or the people of an organization or authorities etc. they can contact with local police on any issue and in New York City, neighborhood watches are growing, because this program is beneficial. What does not work in neighborhood watch is burglary or other target crimes were not reduces and voluntary participation often fails to report about the higher crimes (Travis, 1998). In my final assessment, I think people do not report about each other, because they are family or friends or in some cases, they are unaware of the situations or maybe they fail to report, waiting for the right time. The technique reduction of frustration and stress could be applied to this.

Scared Straight:

It also reduces the crime rate; as offenders do not repeat the crime again example, gambling, theft, public intoxication, racketing etc. This crime ranged from 15 to 19 years teenagers, who do crimes and then send to jails. These criminals or juvenile offenders are sent to jail in very young age so that they will not commit crime again; there is maximum security and severity of prison conditions. People could be alert conscious due to scared straight. In my assessment, offenders may not commit crimes but in some circumstances, this crime prevention program is failed to reduce the crime rate, because in such young age juvenile do what they decide. The offender at this age may have no fear to re-arrest.

Gun Buyback:

A gun buyback can be privately owned by anyone who has money. A gun buyback is the crime prevention program in which only police can buy the firearms and the person who have illegal firearms could be sent to jail. The goal of gun buyback is to reduce the number of firearms for the civilians. Control tools/Weapon technique could be used in gun buyback. Government allowed the citizens to sell their guns or firearms without any risk. What does not work it fails to reduce the gun violence in the city because there were no geographical limitations (Travis, 1998). I my assessment, mostly people did not return the gun to the police because they want to keep with them for the security purposes or they want to use it for illegal actions.

DARE:

It can establish positive relation between the people example between students, parents, teachers etc. DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) can solve all drug related problems, all problems are inter related to each other, and may be linked with drug abuse because a person can do anything when he is not in senses. Dare prevention program has showed the results, but it is not that effective as other preventive programs. In my final assessment, I think DARE can really solve the societal issues, but a man cannot forcefully changed, it is difficult to make drug abusers life dug-free and violence-free. Influence of peer or peer pressure could lessen the rates of crime in the society. Control drugs and alcohol technique could be one of the best techniques we could use for DARE.
