The Meaning of Management Information System and its Role in Telecommunication Companies in Yemen
Introduction:
Management information system (MIS) has become important in the life of people, as various technological tasks are performed by MIS. In Yemen MIS has the same importance, MIS is used in banks, universities, by companies and ministries. However, every organization is being benefited by the technology, the productivity and efficiency are there in the work. The companies are mainly dependent on the MIS; companies are using the system for managing the tasks, customers, employees etc (Al-Mamary, Shamsuddin, & Aziati, 2013).
Parts of MIS:
There are three parts of management information system, management, data and information and system.
Management:
We could define the management as the process of achieving the organizational goals; in order to achieve the organizational goals, there is the need for planning, controlling, organizing and directing the organizational resources. However, management can be defined as the coordination to achieve the business activities.
Data and Information:
Data can be defined as a raw; which can be defined in a number or statement; it can be taken as a date or measurement. Three stages in data and information are raw data, process, and information.
System:
In the system there is a set of components, which can be interrelated and work together for the common goal, it produces and organized transformation process. However, the main purpose of the system is to transform the inputs into outputs.
Definition of Management information System:
The MIS is the system of storing, collecting, processing, transmitting information to support the management programs or operation in the organizations. According to Asemi, It reports about the all the management duties, It help to meet the managers and employee needs. According to Babu and Sekhar It could be a system of the business task, which is performed at the various levels including tools, the collection of people, procedure, and software. According to Al-Mamary, MIS is converting the data from the internal sources, which is then communicated to all level by the managers. The managers can make the effective decisions, planning, directing etc.
Benefits to MIS:
There are many benefits of the MIS as it reports to the management or managers about the performance report; through the report, the future can also be predicted that how the organization will perform in the future. There is the effective coordination at all level of the organization, various departments can interact and management of day-to-day activities can easily carry out. It is the time saving for the employees as employees can do their work faster. According to Babu and Sekhar the purpose of MIS is to achieve, organize, plan the organizational goals, the system can provide the right information at the right time, to the right person.
MIS in organization:
MIS play an important role in the organization, management can get the appropriate information about the functions related to the planning directing, organizing, decision making etc. Every business has its own management process and it is important for the businesses to track all the activities. The importance of MIS cannot be ignored by the managers and that are continuing on improving the business processes in the today’s global environment.
Telecommunication in Companies in Yemen:
Many countries across the world are using the MIS system to improve their business processes, in Yemen, there are many companies, which equally know the importance of MIS system. However, there are so many subscribers in the Yemen service sectors. The subscriber is expected to increase in the recent years, the private and mixed sectors are also using the telecommunication services.
Management Information System in Telecommunication Companies:
Most of the MIS is using by the telecommunication sector in Yemen; the total revenue was almost 400 million dollars of the telecommunication sector in 2013. In the telecommunication sectors, all the companies are connected to the advanced network. However, the companies have developed the software to train and specialize their employees, the companies have realized the importance of MIS, and the companies are focused on reducing the employee’s staff and want to enhance the organizational workflow.
Conclusion:
The telecommunication sector in Yemen has realized the importance of the MIS system; companies are getting benefits by the MIS system as they have noticed the effectiveness in the work and profitability.
