Criteria to Become a Part of Alabama Engineering Licensing Board

Requirements for Becoming an “Engineering Intern” (EI):

There are four paths to become an engineering intern in the Alabama Engineering Licensing Board:Alabama Engineering Licensing Board Requirements

  1. 4 years ABET engineering degree and FE exam. (or)
  2. 4 years unaccredited engineering degree, 2 years experience and FE exam. (or)
  3. 4 years TAC engineering technology Degree, w/ABET MS engineering degree, 2 years experience and FE exam. (or)
  4. 4 years related science degree w/ABET, MS engineering degree, 2 years experience and FE exam.

Note: The graduates from the foreign universities must need the evaluation performed by the NCEES.

Requirements for Becoming a “Professional Engineer” (PE):

There are seven paths to become a professional engineer licensure in the Alabama Engineering Licensing Board:

  1. 4 years ABET engineering degree, 4 years experience, FE and PE exam. (or)
  2. 4 years unaccredited engineering degree, 6 years experience, FE exam PE exam. (or)
  3. 4 years related science degree w/ABET, MS engineering degree, 6 years experience, FE and PE exam. (or)
  4. 4 years TAC engineering technology degree, w/ABET MS engineering degree, 6 years experience, FE and PE exam. (or)
  5. 4 years TAC engineering technology degree, 8 years experience, must be prior to (12/31/05), FE and PE exam.

*Must have been originally licensed in some state as PE prior to Dec. 31, 2005. (or)

  1. 4 years related science degree including 32 sem/48 Qtr hour combined math’s and science basic sciences, 8 years experience, must be prior to (12/31/05), FE and PE exam.

*Must have been originally licensed in some state as PE prior to Dec. 31, 2005. (or)

  1. No degree, 8 years experience, must be prior to (12/31/05), FE and PE exam.

*Must have been originally licensed in some state as PE prior to Dec. 31, 2005.

PDH Requirements for Maintaining Your Licenses, Year to Year:

On-Line Renewals (individual License Only)

  • For the maintenance of the PDH license each year, a professional engineer or professional land surveyor should submit the renewal and fee for each license.
  • There should be no list of any PDH activity that is obtained prior to the last renewal. If one is using the carry forward hour, there is do not need to relist.
  • There is need to check the PDH carry forwards hours, your current carry forwards cannot be shown until, the website is uploaded.
